Automatic Intensive Driving Courses
Learn over a shorter, concentrated period without managing a clutch pedal or changing gears manually.
Automatic intensive courses for different experience levels
Automatic intensive courses combine your driving lessons into a shorter period. With no clutch pedal or manual gear changes to manage, you can concentrate more fully on observations, planning and road positioning.
The appropriate number of hours will depend on your previous driving experience, confidence and current standard. An assessment lesson is advisable before selecting a course to help avoid disappointment.

An assessment lesson is advisable
The number of previous lessons you have completed does not always show your current driving standard. Learners develop at different rates and may have covered different subjects.
An assessment allows an automatic instructor to review your current driving and recommend a more realistic course length, helping to avoid disappointment.
Why choose an automatic intensive course?
Automatic tuition removes clutch control and manual gear selection, but you must still develop the full range of safe driving skills.
No clutch pedal
There is no clutch control to coordinate when moving away, stopping or travelling slowly.
No manual gear changes
The vehicle selects gears automatically, allowing more attention to be directed towards the road.
Reduced risk of stalling
Automatic cars do not normally stall because of incorrect clutch control.
More focus on planning
With fewer controls to operate, some learners can concentrate more fully on observations and decisions.

Is the practical driving test fee included?
No. You must book and pay for your practical driving test directly through the official DVSA booking service.
Should I book my test before arranging the course?
You should confirm course and instructor availability before choosing a practical test date. Booking a test first does not guarantee that your instructor will be available. Your instructor must also agree that you have reached a safe and suitable standard before allowing you to use the tuition vehicle for the practical test.
Can I secure an automatic course with a deposit?
Yes. A £250 deposit can be used to secure agreed course dates. The remaining balance must be paid before the course starts.
Which automatic course should I choose?
The appropriate course depends on your experience, confidence and current driving ability. An assessment lesson is advisable before selecting a course to help ensure the recommended number of hours is suitable and to avoid disappointment.
Is the automatic tuition car included for my test?
No. Use of the tuition vehicle for your practical test must be arranged separately with your instructor. It is subject to the instructor’s availability and their agreement that you have reached a safe and suitable test standard.
Can I drive a manual car after passing in an automatic?
No. Passing the practical test in an automatic vehicle normally gives you an automatic-only driving licence. You would need to pass a manual practical test before driving manual cars.
