Becoming a driving instructor FAQs

How do I become a driving instructor?

You need to complete the DVSA qualification process, which includes Part 1 theory and hazard perception, Part 2 advanced driving ability and Part 3 instructional ability.

Can I earn while I am still training?

After completing the required Part 3 training, eligible trainees can apply for a trainee licence, commonly called a pink badge, and gain real-world teaching experience while preparing for Part 3.

Do I need to provide my own car?

Different franchise and training options may be available, including supported vehicle packages and arrangements for instructors using their own suitable tuition vehicle.

Can I train while working in another job?

Yes. Many trainees complete their instructor training alongside existing employment before moving into instruction full time.

Can I train in an automatic car?

Training can be completed in a manual or automatic vehicle, depending on your chosen route and the type of tuition you plan to provide.
