The start of the test
Before getting behind the wheel, you must complete an eyesight check and answer vehicle-safety questions.
Eyesight Test
Read a vehicle number plate from 27.5 metres before the practical driving assessment begins.
Show Me, Tell Me
Answer five vehicle-safety questions. An incorrect answer results in a driving fault.
The 60-minute driving test
You must demonstrate a high standard of safe, controlled and independent driving across a variety of roads, including residential streets and dual carriageways.
Any serious or dangerous fault results in an immediate fail.
Manoeuvres you may be asked to complete
Each exercise must be completed to an advanced standard with effective observation, planning and vehicle control.
Parallel Park
Reverse safely behind a parked vehicle at the side of the road.
Bay Park
Reverse into, or drive forwards into, a marked parking bay.
Right-side Pull Up
Pull up on the right, reverse around two car lengths and rejoin safely.
Emergency Stop
Demonstrate prompt, controlled braking while maintaining full control.
Angled Start
Move away safely from behind a parked stationary vehicle.

ADI Part 2 FAQs
How long is the ADI Part 2 test?
The practical driving assessment lasts around 60 minutes.
How many driving faults are allowed?
You can receive no more than six driving faults. Any serious or dangerous fault results in a fail.
What happens before the driving assessment?
You must complete an eyesight test and answer five vehicle-safety questions before beginning the practical drive.
Does the test include independent driving?
Yes. You will follow a sat nav or traffic signs for roughly 20 minutes.
